Briggs & Stratton standby generators in Colorado

Briggs & Stratton's PowerProtect+ line, new in 2026, is worth a look on the Front Range for one reason: the 18 and 22 kW models put out the same power on natural gas as on propane, where most brands lose output on gas.

Warranty

PowerProtect+ (May 2026): 7-year standard warranty covering parts, labor and travel, or a 10-year warranty when bought from a Briggs & Stratton dealer. Earlier terms: the 2023 lineup had a 6-year standard warranty (10 years via dealer), and the 2024 PowerProtect DX sell sheet and the current 26 kW product page cite a 10-year comprehensive limited warranty. Terms vary by model and purchase channel. See the operator's manual.

Altitude

The 2024 sell sheet notes only that elevation may greatly affect fuel flow and operation, with no figures. An older Briggs & Stratton air-cooled standby operator's manual (model 040517) states engine power drops about 3.5% per 1,000 ft above sea level and about 1% per 10°F above 77°F. No figure was found for the current PowerProtect+ manual.

Cold weather

Cold-weather accessories listed: oil warmer, battery warmer and fuel regulator warmer (the regulator warmer is listed for the PPDX22). No operating temperature range is published on the sell sheet.

Monitoring and the app

PowerProtect+ has EnergyTrak remote monitoring built in, with an owner mobile app and dealer remote monitoring. The connection type is not stated in the release. Earlier models used InfoHub, and an 'InfoHub Universal - Cellular' accessory (part 6574) is listed. A cellular module would not depend on home internet during an outage.

Recalls

We found no U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls of this brand’s home-backup products since 2021, as of October 2026.
