Kohler standby generators in Colorado
Kohler, now sold under the Rehlko company, is the main alternative to Generac at Colorado dealers. Its spec sheets use a steeper altitude derate than most (4% per 1,000 feet above 500 feet), and its liquid-cooled models are the ones Kohler pitches for higher elevations.

Warranty
Current product pages: 'Premium five-year limited warranty' with 5-year parts coverage, dealer travel up to 200 miles for service, and extended warranty available through a dealer. The 26RCA spec sheet (G4-315, rev. 4/23) describes it as a 5-year/2,000-hour limited standby warranty covering parts, labor and travel, with optional 7-year or 10-year upgrades.
Altitude
26RCA/26RCAL spec sheet: 'Derate 4% per 305 m (1000 ft.) elevation above 153 m (500 ft.)'; also 2% per 10°F above 60°F. Kohler markets its liquid-cooled models as better suited to higher altitudes.
Cold weather
The optional 120 VAC cold weather kit (fuel regulator, oil and breather tube heaters) is recommended below 32°F (0°C). An optional battery heater is recommended below 0°F (-17°C). Do not use a carburetor heater with the cold weather kit. Product pages also recommend cold-weather accessories below 32°F.
Monitoring and the app
Current pages list a remote monitor as included, used with the Kohler Energy Management App. The 2023 spec sheet lists OnCue Plus, with an Ethernet connector on the RDC2 controller. That suggests it relies on the home's internet connection, so off-grid reporting requires the router and modem to be on backup power. The connection method of the newer remote monitor is not published on the pages reviewed.
Recalls
We found no U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls of this brand’s home-backup products since 2021, as of October 2026.
What a Colorado homeowner should know
- Kohler's own spec sheet uses a steeper altitude derate (4%/1,000 ft above 500 ft) than some competitors publish (3.5%/1,000 ft). At Denver elevation, expect roughly 19% less than the rated kW.
- Brand ownership changed: the home-generator business is now part of Rehlko (Platinum Equity majority-owned), but products still carry the KOHLER name.
- Sold and serviced through dealers. Warranty includes dealer travel up to 200 miles.
Kohler is sold and installed through certified installers. Tell us what you need and we’ll connect you with one who installs it in your area.
